Hi and welcome to my Blog, my name is Paul Riddle and I live in south Leicestershire, UK. Back in August 2007 my quest began to locate as many local Little Owl territories as possible. The driving force was a reported decline in the uk numbers so I thought I would do my bit and conduct a study in my area. After 7 years and countless hours out in the field I have detected over 200 different sites. With a thirst for a greater understanding of the owls a more comprehensive monitoring and nest box programme then commenced. This also now includes monitoring the local and very sparse population of Barn Owls, please pop back occasionally and catch up with the life and times of my owls and any other wildlife that I come across. I hope you enjoy your visit!!!

Barn Owl Gallery

Welcome to a selection of my Barn Owl images, every one is of a wild bird that I have been luckily enough to have encountered whilst conducting my surveys. Some encounters are opportunistic whilst the majority take many hours to capture.

I hope you enjoy!

  3. Hi Paul, I drove up past Arnesby and Shearsby from Wigston looking the other night, it looks perfect land for tyto alba's, but seemingly they aren't as prevalent in my home county as where I live now. Here in Buckinghamshire there are far more barn owls and it isn't hard to locate them either or to get them to hunt with you once found as you drive (as long as you know how to get their attention without scaring them off which isn't difficult if you have a little patience)

  5. Awesome photos. A friend of mine owns the pub in Leire, where everytime I've visited i've only ever caught a glimpse of them flying over my van. I'm yet to capture a shot of a barnie in that area.
